About Ian Whittaker
I'm an Artist and teacher. I live and work in Cairns, North Queensland, Australia.
I trained as a secondary Visual Arts teacher in Adelaide, graduating in 1989. Since then I have worked in Queensland, South India, Cambodia and Adelaide. I have taught mostly in Queensland state schools, but also in private international schools, youth detention centres, development organisations and as a freelance trainer. My early enthusiasms were for ceramics, printmaking and painting. To these I have added digital design and photography. "To be a teacher is my greatest work of art. The rest is the waste product, a demonstration. If you want to express yourself you must present something tangible. But after a while this has only the function of an historic document. Objects aren’t very important any more". Joseph Beuys |
